Ken Oosterbroek (1962-1994), one of South
Africa's finest press photographers was
killed by friendly-fire in Tokoza township, some 25km east of Johannesburg, on
April 18, days prior to the first free elections in South Africa in 1994. A
highly acclaimed photographer, Ken was the chief photographer for "The Star"
newspaper in Johannesburg, the country's biggest daily broadsheet. Ken was nominated
the South African Press Photographer of The Year, three times and won
numerous World Press awards. South African Photography
lost one of their greatest and most cherished sons.
